The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says Bay Minette parents recently discovered nude images of their children on their children's cell phones and reported it t
o Bay Minette Police.Ashton says the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Cyber Crimes Division analyzed and processed the cell phones.
"During the processing of one of these phones in particular, a troubling conversation was found between 65-year-old Timothy Arthur and a 12-year-old juvenile female. The content of the conversation was basically he was soliciting this juvenile female for nude photographs of herself, and they were having very explicit sexual conversations as well," said Ashton.
Aston says Arthur admitted to investigators he requested nude pictures from the 12-year- old girl, and it's under investigation how the 65-year-old came into contact with her. The initial press release issued by the sheriff's office Friday morning stated the images were being disseminated at Bay Minette Elementary School, but Ashton says that information was incorrect.Ashton says what happened should serve as a warning to parents.
"Parents need to be proactive with what their children are involved in, be it on Tik Tok or any of these social media platforms. It's sadly very easy for adults and people that have propensities to do these types of crimes to enter chat groups with kids, who think they're just talking to kids," said Ashton.
Arthur, of Little River, is charged with one count of electronic solicitation of a child. He was arrested on Thursday and released on bond Friday.
