Reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny unveils his upcoming album 'Un Verano Sin Ti,' dedicated to Puerto Ricans worldwide. The album artwork and tracklist highlight the island's evolving demographics, with song titles reflecting both English and Spanish pronunciations. A short film accompanying the album depicts filmmaker Jacobo Morales navigating a gentrified Puerto Rico, showcasing a clash between tradition and modernization.
is dedicated to “all the Puerto Ricans in the entire world.” On Friday, the reggaetón star unveiled the track list for his upcoming LP and an accompanying short film, highlighting the changing makeup of his native Puerto Rico .
Several of the song titles seem to feature the phonetic Puerto Rican pronunciation of words in both English and Spanish: “Nuevayol,” which means New York, “KlouFrens,” which means “Close Friends,” and “Ketu TeCré,” which should be “Qué Tú Te Crees,” or “Who Do You Think You Are.” Earlier in the morning, Bad Bunny also debuted a special short film, which serves as a precursor to the album. The video showcases beloved filmmaker Jacobo Morales in a changed, gentrified Puerto Rico.
The short film hears Morales talking to his miniature frog friend, Concho, as he shows off one of his favorite photos. Morales then heads into town to the panadería, as he passes by families speaking in English and listening to music in English, before reaching the panadería, which has now been gentrified and has an English-speaking cashier and a cashless system.“I can’t prepare your order until I pay in full,” responds the worker before another patron pays for his order.
