County health officials are warning beach-goers that bacteria levels at South Mission Beach jetty have exceeded state health standards and may cause illness.
The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality issued the advisory about the popular surf spot Thursday while also lifting a previous advisory for La Jolla Cove and the north cove of Vacation Isle in Mission Bay. Recent water quality samples have met state health standards, according to a county news release.
The ocean shoreline from the international border to the north end of Coronado Municipal Beach will remain closed until sampling confirms the areas are safe. The closure affects the Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach and Silver Strand.Advisories remain for Tidelands Parks in Coronado, Shelter Island and the Children’s Pool in La Jolla, where bacteria levels are higher than state health standards.
