Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has approved the dismissal from the service of a police sergeant who was tagged in the almost a ton of shabu that were confiscated in a drug bust in Manila last year. ManilaBulletin
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said Azurin approved the recommendation of the Internal Affairs Service on March 6.
“He is still detained inside a custodial facility of the BJMP in Taguig City while the trial on the criminal case filed against him is ongoing,” said Fajardo. His arrest was made a few hours after operatives of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group discovered more than 900 kilos of shabu in a lending agency which he allegedly owned in Sta. Cruz, Manila.Mayo was an intelligence operative of the PDEG-National Capital Region at the time of his arrest.
The incident was among the reasons why third level officers of the PNP were asked to submit a courtesy resignation amid allegations that recycling of illegal drugs is still rampant in the police organization. Fajardo said Mayo did not submit any counter-affidavit at the time of the investigation on the administrative cases filed against him.Fajardo said the dismissal of Mayo was a clear and stern message from Azurin that the PNP does not tolerate wrongdoings in its rank.
