AVON, Ohio -- Ten-year-old Kira Johnson and her family in Avon are waiting for a phone call to pick up their already-packed to-go bags and rush down to Columbus with Kira and her 4-year-old brother for Kira’s double lung transplant.Kira was available for an interview with the Johnson family at a school fundraiser that was held at Avon Heritage Elementary School recently. With her was her mother, Ashley, and her aunt, Renee Schuster.
The lung disease was diagnosed when Kira was only 2 weeks old, when she went into pulmonary distress, her mother said. Kira was treated in Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital for almost a year after that. “We knew the end result would be the need for a double lung transplant,” said Ashley, “and she is now on the list.”
