Officers were called to the 2400 block of Hiland, near River Lane, around 1:15 a.m. and found that a roughly 500-foot section of the road was covered by at least 40 feet of snow, police said. The area is about a half mile north of the popular South Fork Valley Trailhead.Homes uphill of the avalanche and in the South River Lane neighborhood will not have road access until the avalanche debris is cleared.
“Crews are working on avalanche mitigation to make it safe for road crews to remove the snow,” police wrote in the statement. “The snow removal process may take several days.”
