25 years ago today, Cher released the hit song 'Believe,' which pioneered the use of Auto-Tune and changed the landscape of music forever.
Cher's 'Believe' was the first hit song ever to use Auto-Tune, something that's now used constantly in all different kinds of music across the globe. FOX 5 NY's Kendall Green takes a closer look at how this pivotal moment revolutionized the music industry.
"I do actually have a video of me doing ‘Believe’ by Cher, I'm such a huge fan of the song. It's one of my favorites," said Claire Marie Lim, an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music. Auto-Tune was originally intended to be used to disguise or correct the pitch of recording artists, but the sound became a trademark for hit makers years later like T-Pain who capitalized on the software on nearly all of his projects.
