Barbara Moon and her husband, Jimmy, were in attendance Wednesday for Game 3 of the ALCS at Globe Life Field in Arlington. They’ll be back for Game 5 Friday afternoon.Barbara, popularly known as “Astros sign lady,” points to a small clear bag filled to the brim with neatly packed signs. She has one for every player in the lineup — all of which have been signed — along with those she makes for “special occasions.
She and Jimmy are also de-facto leaders of what they’ve termed “Bregman’s bunch.” At every home game, Bregman searches for Moon and his fathead during pregame introductions. Once Bregman finds her and the group, Jimmy said, he salutes and taps his chest three times.The Moons, who moved to Houston in 1976, haven’t missed a playoff game — home or away — since 2015, when the Astros won the one-off AL Wild Card Game over the Yankees in New York.
“It seemed like we were the only ones in the park,” said friend Susan Welbes, who also drove out with the Moons for the ALCS. Welbes traveled despite continuing to handle her day job for Travis County, logging on to multiple virtual meetings and presentations before the game in the back of the Moonses’ Suburban.Barbara was the pediatric dentist in their practice before she recently retired.
