The asteroid, named 2023 BU, will zoom over the southern tip of South America at about 7:27 p.m. Eastern, only 2,200 miles above the planet’s surface 🌠
PASADENA, Calif. -- An asteroid about the size of a box truck on Thursday will make one of the closest approaches to Earth ever recorded.
NASA said Wednesday there’s no risk of this asteroid hitting the Earth. It is estimated to be 11.5 to 28 feet across, small enough that it would turn into a fireball and largely disintegrate harmlessly in the atmosphere, although some of the bigger debris could potentially fall as small meteorites.
