Here's what we know so far about the 50 migrants found dead in a Texas tractor-trailer

5/14/2003--A law enforcement officer looks over the scene where 16 people were found dead early Wednesday in and around the trailer of an 18-wheeler truck left at a truck stop near Victoria, TX. Sheriff's deputies found the bodies about 2 a.m. when they answered a reported disturbance inside a trailer at the Speedy Stop truck stop, six miles south of Victoria, TX on US 77 at Fleming Prarie Rd.

A law enforcement official told the Texas Tribune Tuesday morning that it appeared people were attempting to jump out of the trailer because some of the dead were discovered along several blocks. Twenty-two of the migrants were Mexican nationals, he said, while seven were from Guatemala and two from Honduras. The remaining nationalities of the 19 others has yet to be confirmed.

Ruben Minutti Zanatta, consul general of Mexico in San Antonio, said Tuesday that his office would be going to the various hospitals to assist families in trying to identify injured victims and the dead.
