Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star Arwind Santos has joined the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in time for the playoffs of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) which begins tonight, October 6, at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
The 2013 PBA Most Valuable Player is set to make his debut for the Giant Lanterns in Game One of the opening round of the playoffs against the Marikina Shoe Masters at 8 p.m.The entry of Santos into the team was announced at the Giant Lanterns' Facebook page.The 42-year-old Santos, who also hails from the province, will add veteran presence for the Pampanga squad owned by Gov. Dennis Pineda.
Pampanga is determined to win the club's first-ever MPBL championship, which already has former La Salle big man Justin Baltazar and ex-Phoenix guard Encho Serrano in its lineup.Santos missed a big chunk of the PBA Governors' Cup last season, but managed to play 21 games for NorthPort, where he still averaged 9.6 points and 6.7 boards.Santos is a nine-time PBA champion and for a long time, served as San Miguel's star before being traded to NorthPort in 2021.
