The mural inspired by one of the most infamous chapters in American sports is in danger of disappearing due to an order from the city of Arlington.
The mural is on the west side of Gilberto's Taco Shop restaurant, located at 611 W. Park Row Dr., in Arlington.posted it on Twitter“I think I have painted hundreds of murals before in the D-FW area, and I never had to get a permit,” Velázquez told. “They could have said, ‘Next time get a permit or here’s a fine.’ But they are telling me to remove it, and I’m not going to remove it.”
The city of Arlington said in a prepared statement that murals are allowed only in the downtown and entertainment district areas, and Gilberto’s Taco Shop is outside that zone. “The City has no immediate plans to take action regarding the mural at Gilberto’s Taco Shop and will seek feedback from the Arlington City Council on whether it would like to make changes to the mural policy,” the statement said., and he wants to get the public interested in baseball again.haven’t won a World Series, and I think that will only change when people start watching and start showing up to the games, so this was my way to say they are here, they are our team,” Velázquez said.
