The Automobile Club is expecting a 3.7% increase from last year in travelers for the Independence Day holiday, with an estimated 3.3 million Southern Californians expected to travel from Thursday, June 30, through Monday, July 4, according to Shupe. To put that in perspective, a mid-size sedan is paying about $29 more for regular, unleaded gas to fill up the same tank, Shupe said.
The Automobile Club expects to rescue an estimated 65,000 stranded drivers in Southern California alone – 446,000 across the country. “Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. Speeding not only endangers your life, but the lives of everyone on the roadway,” said CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray. “Fill the holiday weekend with celebration and fun activities, not reckless choices that lead to tragedy.”
“We expect the Independence Day holiday weekend to be the busiest we’ve had in more than two years, and we want to make sure our guests know about the tools available that can make every part of their journey easier and faster,” Justin Erbacci, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports, said in a statement.
