Researchers say that even in Apple Vision Pro, where adding outside apps is restricted, users can still fall victim to these attacks.
The study introduced a term called ‘inception attacks,’ which draws from the Christopher Nolan movie ‘Inception,’ in which a team led by Leonardo DiCaprio’s character plants an idea in someone’s mind without them being aware.
The user remains unaware that their interactions are being recorded or manipulated by the attacker, which is most people’s worst nightmare online. When on our computers, we can mostly tell we are being recorded. The green light next to the camera switches on. But how can users tell if malicious actors are at play manipulating their VR headsets?headsets on 27 users. During the study, an inception attack was initiated without the participants’ knowledge, altering their VR experiences.
The ‘inception attack’ exploits a vulnerability in Meta Quest headsets’ “developer mode,” allowing attackers on the same Wi-Fi network to gain access.
