Apple’s release of new emoji is always worth a look and there’s plenty in the new release.

It’s a versatile option, this one, but notice the smiling mouth. “I’m so proud,” “I adore you,” and “I’m grateful” are among the options that spring to my mind. It’s great that there are so many new Smiley faces in the latest emoji release, and as ever, Apple has crafted them with care and added joy and originality to the mix, so you can create more meaningful, or at least more fun, messages.
Then there’s finger pointing towards you in a Your Country needs You sort of way. Finally, the heart gesture is also now an emoji, in multiple skin tones.Well, these are always useful. There are five different skin tones available and by the time iOS 15.4 reaches general release will have all the variations of different hand colors shaking. Right now, in the first dev beta, only the five skin shades shaking the same color are available, but this will change.
And, best of all, a troll with a staff. Since this was first announced in the summer, the troll has put their staff by their side and the skin tone has muted from green to a more discreet gray. Oh, and the troll is better-dressed now.There’s also a highly useful disco glitter ball, great for messages about parties. Seriously, how did we manage without that one?
All these emoji will be in iOS 15.4 when it’s on general release, likely in March. Before then, you can sign up to the public beta as soon as it’s out, probably in the coming days. There’s much more in iOS 15.4 which looks like being a very big release indeed, with Face ID Unlock when you’re wearing a mask, without Apple Watch and the arrival—finally—of Universal Control where iPad and Mac work together in a whole new way.
