The post, which was viewed more than 2 million times, pointed out no flags were displayed when typing the names of several other capital cities and added: “Showing double standards with respect to Israel is a form of antisemitism.” Riley signed off on the post as “a Jewish woman concerned about the global rise in anti-Semitism” and asked Apple to explain if the change was an “intentional act by your company, or whether you have no control over rogue programmers.”
Some people responding to Riley’s tweet pointed out the issue appeared to be limited to users with English UK, English Singapore and English South Africa set as their system language.The status of Jerusalem is an internationally contested issue. Former President Donald Trump’s administration formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 2017.
