A new feature is coming to Apple Music this month, for all those parties where you can’t resist jumping up to sing.
Here's how to use it, when it arrives: look for the icon of a microphone with stars around it and you’ll see that’s a volume slider. Adjust this and you can reduce the professional voice to a minimum if you wish. While it won’t take the original out completely, it’s certainly quiet enough for you to sing over it easily, without feeling you’re competing with anyone. The lyrics are smart, knowing who sings what and splitting the lyrics to the opposite edges of the screen.
It will initially be available on tens of millions of songs and the range of available tracks will grow in time. The vast majority of its most played tracks, over 80%, will be available at launch. Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, was quoted in the press release as saying, “We already know our users all over the world love to follow along to their favorite songs, so we wanted to evolve this offering even further to enable even more engagement around music through singing. It’s really a lot of fun, our customers are going to love it.”
