Apple’s next Mac update to bring in Apple Silicon looks to be the 27-inch iMac, with reports this week that suppliers are now shipping components required to assemble the desk-bound computer; many are watching to see if Apple stays with an LCD screen, or switching the iMac to the miniLED styled screen found on the new MacBook Pro laptops:
"Apple is widely rumored to be planning a new 27-inch iMac with a mini-LED display for release in the first half of 2022. According to display industry analyst Ross Young, who has proven to be a reliable source of display-related rumors, the new 27-inch iMac will support ProMotion, enabling a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother content.
"The app economy has been lucrative for many developers, enabling practically anyone to produce an app and to make money from it around the world. In a new Sensor Tower report, it seems that there will be another 900 developers to be included in the pool of high earners by the end of 2021. "The report forecasts that 906 mobile app publishers will earn their first $1 million in net avenue revenue in 2021. The total figure is nearly double that of the 475 publishers to earn their first annual million in 2016."Apple may offer software support through iOS to older handsets for an unspecified but significant number of years, but that support is not without limits.
"Apple has also laid out plans to continue to support both the current and previous major versions of iOS with critical security patches, further extending the usable life of older models. For example, right now, customers can choose to stick to iOS 14 rather than updating to iOS 15. Assuming Apple sticks to its promises, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE customers will continue to receive iOS 15 security updates for several years after iOS 16 is released in the fall of 2022.
