SAN FRANCISCO — It took only moments for the battle lines to be drawn, just as everyone in the known basketball world expected when the Lakers and Golden State Warriors took the court for Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Tuesday night at Chase Center. They didn’t disappoint.
Leads were built and erased Tuesday in a matter of possessions. Neither team could shed the other. The Warriors led by eight points in the opening minutes, but couldn’t hold it. The Lakers took a 10-point lead in the third quarter and held a 96-88 advantage going into the fourth. The Lakers fed the ball to Davis and let him go to work on the undersized Warriors’ front line, playing a more traditional game. They were slower with the ball in their hands, methodical at times. The Warriors played their high-tempo game to the hilt, moving at a dizzying pace.
Vanderbilt got the first crack at defending Curry, fresh from his 50-point outburst during the Warriors’ victory over the Sacramento Kings in the decisive Game 7 of their first-round series Sunday. Schroder took a few turns on Curry, as well. As did James in the closing moments of the half.
