The Angels and Reds will not play Monday night and will make up the game with a split doubleheader on Wednesday, with games at 1:07 p.m. and 6:38 p.m.
The Angels game scheduled for Monday night was postponed about nine hours before the scheduled 6:38 p.m. first pitch in the wake of a day-long downpour as Tropical Storm Hilary passed through Southern California a day earlier.
“The outfield took a big hit,” Manager Phil Nevin said. “It’s a lot more rain than we normally get around here. But everybody’s safe. Everybody’s good. The field took a little bit of a hit, but is out there making it perfect, as it always is here.” Right-hander Lucas Giolito will start the series opener for the Angels on Tuesday, followed by right-hander Shohei Ohtani in the first game and left-hander Reid Detmers in the second game on Wednesday. This will be Ohtani’s first start in two weeks. He asked to have his previous outingCenter fielder Mike Trout might also be activated for this series. The Angels cleared a spot by optioning outfielder Jordyn Adams on Sunday, but Nevin said that’s “not 100%” of a sign that Trout will be active.
