Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara sought the granting of citizenship to Bennie Boatwright III to further boost the Gilas Pilipinas national men's basketball team.The senator said once naturalized, Boatwright , 27, is expected to serve as the backup of fellow naturalized player Justin Brownlee in the Gilas Pilipinas roster.
Robbie Puno, SBP vice chairman, is also expected to file the counterpart measure in the House of Representatives.Kouame and Boatwright also represent the future of Gilas Pilipinas, with Brownlee having turned 36 this year, Angara said.Boatwright expressed willingness to play for the Philippines, Angara said. This will help his citizenship bid, he added.The senator said Boatwright, who stands 6 feet and 10 inches tall, was a former University of Southern California Trojans star.
