Three dogs saved from butchering in South Korea and one rescued during Hurricane Ian are among the most recent additions to the nearly two hundred dogs awaiting adoption from Anderson Humane in South Elgin.
The four dogs arrived Friday, sent to the animal shelter from the Humane Society of the United States facility in Cumberland, Virginia.“This is our first time taking dogs from overseas,” Anderson Humane Chief Operations Officer Dean Daubert said.
He anticipates they will be available for adoption toward the end of the week. Information will be posted on the nonprofit’s website,“We are allowing them time to decompress from their long travels. They are timid, but we are hopeful that with a little love they will blossom,” Daubert said. Two of the mixed-breed dogs from South Korea are 2-year-old males named Saturn and Jupiter and the third is a 3-year-old female named Harness.This is the most recent partnership between Anderson Humane and the Humane Society. This summer, Anderson took in and found homes from 166 beagles rescued from Envigo, a lab in Virginia shut down by federal government for mistreating the dogs, which were being used in experiments.
