While Anchorage is currently sitting with the third-most snowfall in recorded history this winter, a little over 4 inches of snow is needed to push us over the top.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - While snowfall wasn’t as impressive for some locations across Southcentral Alaska, we still remain inches away from setting a new seasonal snowfall record in Alaska’s largest city.
In total, the city of Anchorage has seen nearly 11 feet of snow this winter, the third-highest in recorded history, and only 4.2 inches away from tying the all-time mark set in the winter of 2011-12.While the snow has tapered off for many, we’ll keep light snow showers in the forecast through the remainder of the day. While most of the activity favors areas east of Palmer to see snow, Anchorage and surrounding locations could still see some light snowfall into the afternoon hours.
Statewide, we continue to see localized areas of light snowfall. No significant snow is in the forecast, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation expected through parts of Interior Alaska. Areas across the rest of the state that manage to see light snowfall, will only see accumulation less than an inch.
