Analysis: On average, the anti-McCarthy faction agreed with him on votes only three-quarters of the time in the last congress. Most of his opponents, 16 of them, have served previously and held positions further to the right than the rest of their caucus.

But most, 16 of them, have served previously. In the 117th Congress, they all had two characteristics in common: They held positions further to the right than most of the rest of their caucus, and even then were much more likely to vote in opposition to McCarthy. There were more than 950 votes in the Congress that ended Tuesday in which McCarthy voted “yea” or “nay.” On average, Republicans who still serve in the House voted with him 88.

There are some anomalies worth pointing out. The first is Spartz, who is broadly in line with the rest of the Republican caucus on both ideology and support for McCarthy. She voted with him 92.5 percent of the time in the 117th Congress and is actually slightly more moderate than he is politically, according to the DW-NOMINATE analysis.
