Officials: US aid worker from Bellaire charity shot dead in Baghdad attack
Millennium Relief & Development Services said in a press release that the employee, who has not been publicly identified, was killed by armed attackers as he returned to his home in the Iraqi capital.where he lives in Baghdad’s central Karrada district on the east bank of the Tigris River but the reason for the killing was not immediately clear, Iraqi police officials told The Associated Press. They said the man’s wife and child were in the car with him but were not hurt.
In its statement, Millennium Relief & Development Services said the man had been working for a local English learning institute, Global English Institute, for the past few years, managing the promotions and advertising.. His his wife was manager of the school, according to the press release. A medical worker at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where the victim was taken, said he was dead on arrival, according to the Associated Press.
Such attacks against individuals in the Iraqi capital have been rare since the defeat of the Islamic State group in the country in 2017 but rockets are sometimes fired toward the U.S. Embassy.
