An American Airlines plane bound for Dallas loses a piece of its wing and lands in Birmingham.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines said no one was hurt and the plane diverted safely to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport “due to a potential mechanical issue midflight.”
American Airlines wouldn’t confirm the condition of the aircraft on Wednesday, but the jet hasn’t left Birmingham since Tuesday evening, according to FlightRadar24. Photos shared on social media Tuesday evening show a crew working on an American Eagle jet with what appears to be a significant section of the right wing broken off.
