Amazon is projecting a massive drop in technology costs for its chain of cashierless Fresh grocery stores, partly by eliminating workers who watch for questionable transactions

"Our vision is to further reduce annualized JWO costs for all store sizes," one of the documents said."Most of our cost reduction will come from continued invention or simplification of architecture vs. supply chain volume leverage." "It really gives Amazon a lot of leverage," Bishop told Insider."You've got a very efficient store there." An Amazon spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
Those investments include cameras, shelf sensors, low-voltage cabling, and other networking and infrastructure. Amazon is developing a new camera system with an increased field of view, which lowers the number of cameras needed per store. It's also designing remote switches that can save 80% of the cable cost and labor, and an"on-premise edge compute appliance" that brings computing power closer to the store and reduces general operating costs, the document said.
