The American, who is aiming to compete in all five alpine skiing events in China, got her first taste of the conditions on Friday and came away with a newfound appreciation of just how much of a challenge awaits.
"Skiing speed when you're getting air off terrain ... that becomes not only challenging but also very dangerous. Shiffrin, 26, won slalom gold at the Sochi Games eight years ago, and gold in the giant slalom in Pyeongchang in 2018.
