The veteran receiver’s work ethic and desire to improve are reasons why he and the Rams have high hopes for the chemistry he could develop with quarterback Matthew Stafford this season.
IRVINE — Matthew Stafford’s highlight throw of Day 4 of Rams training camp was a perfectly placed ball for Cooper Kupp to complete near the left sideline.
Stafford is now using that blueprint to create chemistry with newcomer wide receiver Allen Robinson, something that will take time to develop and won’t occur without mistakes in late July. Minutes after his dazzling throw to Kupp, Stafford underthrew Robinson on a jump ball in the left corner of the end zone that forced Robinson to climb over rookie Derion Kendrick before the ball hit the ground.
“He’s not asking the questions about what he has,” Kupp said of Robinson. “It’s the questions of the minute, little details of a route. Yeah, he did it right, but he wants to know how he can do it just a little bit better. How can he do it versus every different look? What are the goals of this play? How does he – if you understand the goals and the intent behind a play, you’re able to, as a football player, kind of understand how you’re supposed to run the little nuances to that route.
