Allen, one of the cities served by the North Texas Municipal Water District, recently increased water and sewer rates.Residents in Allen will soon have a slightly higher water bill, as the City Council on Sept. 27 approved a fee increase beginning Oct. 1 for water, sewer and trash and recycling services.
The changes were approved to offset inflation, maintaining aging infrastructure and wholesale costs from the city’s water supplier, the North Texas Municipal Water District, according to aTrash, recycling and household hazardous waste collection will increase by $1.50. Residents who have extra trash or recycling carts will see an additional increase of 9.62%. Those ages 65 and older canResidents who use 10,000 gallons of water per month will see an increase of about $11.52 per month.
Residential drainage rates will remain at $3.50 per month, but commercial drainage rates will increase. “Despite the water and sewer rate increases, Allen’s residential and commercial water rates remain among the lowest among the cities that get their treated water and wastewater treatment services from [the North Texas Municipal Water District],”
