According to Debra’s ex-husband, Richard, she is always “fast-forwarding”; she thinks of this as foresight and planning. Could Debra ever not be a planner?Debra believes that the next stage in Richard’s new relationship will be marriage. She’s already planning how the girls should learn about this when Richard tells her that his girlfriend, Heather, is pregnant.
Her daughters are thrilled when they hear the news. There’s a sense that everything’s fun and lighthearted at Richard and Heather’s. Do you think that this lightheartedness will survive the arrival of the new baby?Another character in the story is the family’s dog, Max, a Samoyed. Is he the one constant part of Debra’s life?
