Early voting for the March 26 special election runoff for Frisco City Council begins today.
Laura Rummel and Tracie Shipman are vying for the seat after Rummel received 2,340 votes, about 45.9%, while Shipman received 2,080 votes, about 40.8%, during the Jan. 29 special election.has lived in Frisco for 18 years. Rummel works in a business development role at PayPal. In December 2020, she lost to councilman Stricklin in a runoff election.
She is a volunteer with Paws in the City, a local animal-rescue organization, and recently co-founded her own organization, Frisco Pet Partners. She also volunteers for the Network of Executive Women, the National Association of MBAs, and the Frisco Women’s League.Rummel says she wants to ensure that infrastructure can handle expected growth; collaborate with landowners and developers to reduce the number of high-density apartments; and focus on attracting new businesses to Frisco.
She previously served on City Council from 1999 to 2003 and was voted by the council to lead as Mayor Pro Tem.George Purefoy announced his retirement in June“Selecting his replacement will be the most important decision made by a Frisco council since he was first hired in 1987,” Shipman wrote on her She added that the city manager decision as well as its consequences and impact on Frisco’s future are the primary reasons for her decision to run for the seat.Collin College Frisco Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd.Voting times8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between March 9 and 19 and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 21 and 22.
