SHANGHÁI (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz debió remar contra corriente en ambos sets y acabó imponiéndose el lunes 7-6 (1), 6-4 ante el británico Daniel Evans para acceder a los octavos de final del Masters de Shanghái.
El número dos del mundo y primer cabeza de serie del torneo chino sufrió un quiebre de servicio en el cuarto juego al enfrascarse en varios peloteos largos. Alcaraz dejó escapar nueve oportunidades de quiebre hasta que finalmente pudo romper el saque de su oponente en el séptimo juego para forzar un desempate que dominó. Alcaraz también tuvo que remontar en el segundo parcial tras perder el saque en el tercer juego.
En su mejor semana de una temporada muy adversa, el Diego Schwartzman se instaló en los octavos de final tras 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 al estadounidense Taylor Fritz . Schwarzman remontó un 3-5 en el último set para llevarse su primera victoria ante un Top 100 en casi 18 meses. Actual número 130 del ranking, Schwartzman entró al cuadro principal de Shanghái mediante una invitación.
