Three former Alabama running backs surpassed 1,000 rushing yards during the 2022 NFL regular season, including the Las Vegas Raiders’ Josh Jacobs, who became the third Crimson Tide alumnus to lead the league in rushing. Here's how the rankings look:
The NFL’s rushing leader in 2019 and 2020, Henry would move to the top of the Tide chart with another such season in 2023. “King Henry” trails Alabama record-holder and NFL 2005 rushing leader Shaun Alexander by 1,118 yards.boosted his career total to 2,234, which dislodged George Gulyanics from the Tide’s top 10 for NFL career rushing yards.
Gulyanics played for Alabama briefly in 1941 before being drafted into the U.S. Army. After World War II, he joined the Chicago Bears and was the NFL’s best punter in 1947 and 1949. Alexander averaged 4.3 yards on 2,187 carries and scored 100 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career. Alexander led the NFL with 1,880 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns in 2005, when he won the league’s MVP Award. Alexander ran for at least 1,175 yards every season from 2001 through 2005.The 2015 Heisman Trophy winner has averaged 4.8 yards on 1,750 carries and scored 78 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career.
The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner has averaged 4.5 yards on 1,817 carries and scored 65 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career. Ingram recorded 1,000-yard seasons in 2016, 2017 and 2019. In 2022, Ingram ran for 233 yards and one touchdown on 62 carries.Jacobs has averaged 4.4 yards on 1,072 carries and scored 40 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career. Jacobs has surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in three of his four seasons.
Drake has averaged 4.5 yards on 867 carries and scored 33 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career. In 2022, Drake ran for 482 yards and four touchdowns on 109 carries.A prep standout at Carroll High School in Ozark, Jackson averaged 4.0 yards on 971 carries and scored 13 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career. Jackson ran for at least 700 yards in four seasons, reaching a high of 792 in 1976. His final game came in Washington’s 27-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII.
