"A lot of them are probably confused about where they can get work but there are others that probably have barriers to entering the work force," explained Alabama Workforce Council chairman Tim McCartney. Governor Kay Ivey in an op-ed written on the issue, argued creating more skilled young workers through schooling or certification is the key for the state's future. Lawson State Community College works to create them. It's shops train students to work on vehicles similar to those found across the state's growing auto manufacturing sector. Nursing, robotics and advanced manufacturing all considered in-demand job sectors in Alabama.
"If we're going to the youth, we're going to have to go to those media types that they use," McCartney believes.
