Deuel Ross, the plaintiffs' lawyer, said Friday that his clients will challenge the new districts since they don't "remedy the Voting Rights Act violation identified by the Supreme Court." In the state Senate, Democratic Minority Leader Bobby Singleton contended that conservatives were trying to "silence the voice of Black voters.""The Legislature knows our state, our people and our districts better than the federal courts or activist groups, and I am pleased that they answered the call, remained focused and produced new districts ahead of the court deadline," Ivey, the governor, said in a statement.

After the U.S. Supreme Court's decision, experts posited that the creation of a second majority-Black district, because Black voters in Alabama tend to vote for Democrats.
