Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan is expected to lift a curfew on Wednesday for the downtown area if protests over the police-involved shooting death of Jayland Walker remain peaceful.

Mayor Horrigan released the following statement on Tuesday:

“I want to again thank all those who have protested peacefully in our community over the last several days. Citizens have a right to make their voices heard, and I fully support that. The community respected the curfew which we put in place last night and did not further damage our downtown corridor. I expect tonight to be the same. In an effort to support all those who are peacefully protesting, I plan to lift the curfew in our downtown footprint starting tomorrow.
