The expanded department can be easily accessed via Bowery Street . Parents and caregivers of patients who have mobility challenges will be able to drive up to the door and bring their child into the department without having to navigate pedestrian bridges or elevators, according to the hospital.
Braydon Robinson, 8, practices basketball with his physical therapist, Tiffany Pluta, in the hospital’s new adolescent gym. The expansion will allow the hospital to treat more children, according to Kwee. Over the next few years, he estimates the hospital will be able to increase its rehabilitation visits by 34 percent. With that will come the need for additional staffing, he said.Featuring bold colors and plenty of natural light, the department’s sensory integration room is designed to help therapy feel like play, according to Akron Children’s Hospital Media Relations Specialist Laurie Schueler.
