Service members in the Air Force or Space Force stationed in Alaska are now eligible to receive incentive pay for living in extreme cold conditions.
Incentive matches Army program in place since 2020Published: Apr. 3, 2024 at 4:34 PM AKDTANCHORAGE, Alaska - Members of the Air Force and Space Force stationed in Alaska will soon receive incentive pay for being assigned to duty stations that experience extremely low temperatures.
The one-time lump sum payment is intended to offset the financial burden of purchasing extreme cold weather gear, snow tires and changeovers, engine block heaters, and winter emergency gear while also incentivizing assignments. The first pay date for the incentive is planned for July 1, meaning any airmen or guardians who relocate to a qualifying duty station between April 1 and June 30 will receive the first batch of payments.
