Former Mr. Football Cade Stover has finally found a positional home with Ohio State, emerging as a star tight end this season for the Buckeyes.
But it’d be a disservice to sum up Stover’s contribution this year with statistics. His value can’t be captured with numbers.
Stover describes his mom as the family’s glue. No matter how late because of kids’ games or Trevor’s work, she’d have a cooked meal for a family dinner, he said.“I’ve always said that if I can be literally half of that dude, I'll be a really, really good dude,” Cade said.“He’s a great big brother,” Chelsi said. “He’s always very protective.”
Early in his recruitment, Stover was open to leaving Ohio and branching out. But the lure of remaining near family and playing for Ohio State kept him close to home.Finding a positional home with the Buckeyes was more challenging. Early in his career, he played linebacker, defensive end and tight end without sticking.
He thought wrong. Day hired Jim Knowles as defensive coordinator, and his base scheme uses only two linebackers, with Eichenberg and Steele Chambers the projected starters. “I have no words to describe how much that guy means to me and this place itself,” Stover said. “He’s awesome.”
