White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tweeted that Biden had been looking forward to an interview on Fox Soul. But she said the White House had been informed that the network’s parent company, Fox Corp., canceled the interview.
Fans attending the annual NFL Experience event at the Phoenix Convention Center say their team is the one to beat, prior to Sunday's Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Presidents in recent years have granted wide-ranging interviews to the network hosting the Super Bowl. But last week there was confusion over whether Biden would follow the tradition.on Fox Soul, a streaming sister service to the conservative Fox News.
“As we said earlier, we had arranged an interview with Fox Sports Host Mike Hill & Vivica A. Fox with the president ahead of the Super Bowl and Fox Corp had the interview cancelled,” a White House spokesperson said. “Fox has since put out a statement indicating the interview was rescheduled, which is inaccurate.”
A Super Bowl pregame interview with the president is a relatively new tradition. George W. Bush was the first president to grant an interview ahead of the game. Barack Obama did the interviews every year during his two terms in office. Donald Trump gave three pregame interviews – in 2017, 2019 and 2020 – but refused to sit down for an interview with NBC in 2018.Michael Collins covers the White House.
