Rapper Boosie Badazz charged with gun crime in San Diego federal court
The rapper’s attorneys argued Tuesday that it’s “outrageous” police used so many resources, including the helicopter, to go after Hatch on a single count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, arguing he’s neither a danger to the community nor a flight risk. Outside of court, Blanco said Hatch’s arrest and prosecution “scream of racism.” Hatch’s other attorney, Damon Alimouri, said the case against Hatch is a “persecution, not a prosecution.”
San Diego police initially arrested Hatch on May 6 in the Chollas View neighborhood while he was reportedly in town to shoot a music video and perform a concert. In a news release two days later, police said the arrest occurred during a traffic stop but did not disclose details about what led up to it.
Callahan played two audio clips in court Tuesday. He said one was recorded by police shortly after they arrested Hatch, in which he can be heard repeatedly claiming the guns belonged to his security guard and that he only had it in his waistband during the music video shoot.
