The celebration of Portuguese culture that attracts thousands of visitors a year to the city’s predominantly Portuguese Ironbound section will take place the weekend of June 9-11, the Portugal Day Committee announced Wednesday. During the festival, the Ironbound is alight with the red, yellow and green colors of the Portuguese flag, with street vendors hawking grilled fish and other cuisine of the seafaring nation that shares the Iberian Peninsula with Spain in Europe’s southwest corner.Foundation, named for its founder, a Portuguese immigrant, businessman and civic leader who loved music and the arts. Since then, the festival has attracted more than 300,000 visitors over the years, according to the committee.
