Tournament's 16 participating teams include 12 from San Diego; finals set for Sunday at Mission Bay High School
American Legion Baseball, the top high school-summer program in the county, is hosting the second annual Admiral Shelton Tournament starting Thursday.
The four-day, 16-team event will take place at four high schools around the county — West Hills, University City, Canyon Hills and Mission Bay — with games at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The semifinals and finals are Sunday at Mission Bay with semis at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the championship game at 4 p.m.
There are 12 teams from San Diego participating. American Legion Post 291 out of Newport Beach is sending two teams, while Post 147 from Clovis and Post 519 from Palm Springs is sending its Desert Elite squad.The Clovis Nighthawks are coached by Rollo Adams, who played at San Diego State in the late 1970s and was a fifth-round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants.
