THE country’s poverty reduction efforts may come at a cost to the environment as more greenhouse gas emissions are needed to boost economic growth and raise Filipino’s incomes, according to the Asian Development Bank .
“More research is needed to understand how to design climate change mitigation programs that drive rapid technical, behavioral, and systemic changes that also contribute to poverty reduction,” it, however, added. Less than a 10-percent increase in tCO2 per capita is needed to reach the income threshold of $3.65 per capita per day and less than 5 percent in tCO2 per capita to reach the income threshold of $2.19 per capita per day.
