Houston retailer Academy Sports and Outdoors on Thursday said CEO Ken Hicks will step aside June 1 as the rest of the leadership team also is shuffled.Chief Merchandising Officer Steven Lawrence will take over the chief executive post from Hicks, who has served as chairman, president and CEO since May 2018. Hicks will remain board chair.
Lawrence, who joined Academy in February 2019, will be the 85-year-old company's seventh CEO. Mullican, who joined the company in January 2018, led the company's IPO and debt refinancing in 2020. "It has been an enormous privilege leading Academy as CEO over the past five years," Hicks said in a company statement issued Thursday."Having known Academy since I was growing up in Houston, this has been a dream job that has allowed me to fill my passion for retail and connect with our team members and customers."
