ABC7 teams up with Kidde and local first responders to provide free fire-safety equipment to under-resourced communities
Having a functional smoke alarm in your home could be the difference between life or death. That's why the Kidde-sponsored Operation Save-A-Life campaign is designed to educate on the importance of proper fire safety.
"On average, families have less than - pay attention to this number - two to three minutes to escape from fire," said Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. "The sooner you hear the smoke alarms, the more time you will have to get out." "Our reporters and photographers are often on the front lines covering fire tragedies including those where a smoke detector could have made a difference," Fair said. "That's why this initiative is so important."
"Carbon monoxide is an invisible and odorless gas," said Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone. "To keep your family safe, you need at least one working CO alarm on each level of your home especially near a sleeping area."
