a star-studded cast that could maybe even putto shame. In addition to Murphy, the film stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, and Josh Hartnett.
Murphy, a Nolan-veteran, will lead the cast as Oppenheimer, while Blunt will play his wife, Katherine. According to, Pugh will take on the role of Communist Party member Jean Tatlock, who had an affair with Oppenheimer during the time period, which reportedly created security concerns for the U.S. government. Safdie is to play Edward Teller, a Hungarian physician and member of the Manhattan Project, while Damon will portray Leslie Groves, who directed the Project.
Downey Jr., meanwhile, will play Lewis Strauss, the chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission at the time, who had a major role in the develop of nuclear weapons, and eventually led hearings regarding Oppenheimer’s loyalty to the U.S. and the government. As of now, Hartnett and Malek’s roles are unknown.premieres in theaters on July 21, 2023, just days before the 78th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.dropped on Monday, May 8th.
“You are the man who gave them power to destroy themselves. And the world is not prepared,” Oppenheimer is told at one point.
