A’s relief pitcher Lou Trivino felt good against Tampa Bay but two bad pitches were his undoing in the 10th inning.
“Two pitches I left in the middle,” Trivino said of the blows by Franco and Margot. “I felt really good. I felt like I had a lot of life on my stuff. Just two bad pitches.”
Trivino is by far the most experienced of a group that includes Domingo Acevedo, Zach Jackson, Jacob Lemoine, Kirby Snead, Dany Jiminez, Sam Moll and Adam Kolarek. The A’s used eight of their 10 relievers on their expanded roster and Kotsay said he would talk to relievers to see which ones would be good to go Wednesday. While it’s a microscopic sample size, Acevedo has shown swing-and-miss stuff so far, striking out two batters in each of his three appearances including Tuesday night.
Whether Trivino retains the role of closer will be determined by production — the kind of production that saw Treinen in 2018 and then Hendriks afterward win the job because of repeated success.
