With the Oscar ceremony just a few days away, journalists were escorted through a gauntlet of security, given shoe-covering booties to wear, and then briefly afforded a peek into the greenroom where presenters and winners will go immediately before and after they appear onstage Sunday night.... [+]The temporary greenroom can accommodate between 30 and 40 people who’ll be among the night’s most elite attendees, most of them Oscar winners or nominees at some point in their careers.
They’ll be treated to some of Oscar night’s best seats: cushy chairs, tasteful lighting, large-screen TVs showing the proceedings, books to read, clocks everywhere , and most importantly for thirsty and nervous presenters, a bar serving champagne and water.Photo by David BloomRolex designers focused this year on a chilly theme of Arctic exploration tied to its new “Perpetual Planet” initiative.
At the same time, the wall inlay subtly slips in a climate-change message, which isn’t to say that much encouragement on that subject should be needed for the famously left-leaning members of the Motion Picture Academy.... [+]The center of the room features an overhead set of curling, converging lines convening over a table with yet another watch inlaid in its center. The overhead lines are meant to evoke the meridian lines that meet at the North Pole.
Perhaps even more vulnerable on Oscar night may be the egos of some of the nominees forced to act happy even when they don’t win . For those who make it to the greenroom backstage, they’ll find a little oasis that some may be loathe to leave, even for the bright lights and adulation onstage.
